Supporting Vermont's Migrant Workers 2017-05-11

El Viaje Mas Caro and the Huertas (Garden) Project
May 11, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Memorial Library in Bristol.

El Viaje Mas Caro (The Most Costly Journey) is an ethnographic cartooning project. Julia Doucet, a nurse at Middlebury’s Open Door Clinic, will talk about collaborative storytelling to mitigate loneliness, isolation, and despair among Latin American migrant farm workers on Vermont dairy farms.

The Huertas Project enables Latino/a migrant farmworkers and families to access culturally familiar, healthy and local foods. Naomi Wolcott-MacCausland, Migrant Health Coordinator at UVM Extension, will provide insight into food access challenges for immigrant farmworkers particularly in Northern Vermont as well as how Huertas aims to increase access to culturally familiar vegetables and herbs.

Both El Viaje Mas Caro and Huertas fall under the umbrella of Bridges to Health, a three-organization consortium whose goal is increased access to health care services for migratory agricultural workers.

This free event is presented by the One World Library Project.
