Ceremony Is Planned at the Bristol Green
in Celebration of the International Day of Peace
Bristol, VT….The One-World Library Project will host an International
Day of Peace event at the village green in Bristol on Sunday, September
21st at 12:00 noon. Members of the community and other interested individuals
are invited to join together for a reading of the Twelve Prayers for Peace
from traditions around the world. Participants are also encouraged to
bring and share their own favorite prayers, songs and poems about peace.
The rain site for the event is Holley Hall in Bristol.
The International Day of Peace was established 26 years ago by a United
Nations resolution. Since then, Peace Day has “marked our personal
and planetary progress toward peace”, according to the International
Day of Peace website. The observance has grown to include millions
of people in all parts of the world who commemorate the day with events
ranging in scale from private gatherings to public concerts and forums.
The Peace Prayer ceremony is organized by the One-World Library Project
(OWLP) in Bristol. Members of the non-profit OWLP believe that celebrating
the International Day of Peace supports its mission of “Bringing
the World to our Community”. Board member Elin Melchior of Bristol
explains “those of us who are part of the One-World Library Project
have found that our path to and interest in peace is fueled by our love
and curiosity about cultures around the world. We created the One-World
Library Project to share these cultures with our community through books,
movies, music and programs.” |
